As an Apprentice at Culinary Artistas, you will be able to:
- Participate in an exclusive guest lecture series featuring industry professionals covering a variety of culinary arts topics ranging from agriculture to business.
- Receive training in cultivating engaging kitchen and classroom spaces.
- Gain hands-on skills by designing your own dishes and curriculum plans with the help of your cohort peers.
- Network at corporate and partnership studio events and soirees.
- Gain one on one professional development support from our team.
Responsibilities:
- Teach after-school students (children and adults) the basics of food preparation, kitchen safety, and making healthy choices when cooking, according to the highlighted objectives of each lesson or event. Typically between 2:00pm-6:00pm on weekdays, at least 2 days per week and up to 5.
- Engage students with a variety of learning tools including hands-on, auditory, and visual techniques that allow them to practice and improve cooking skills. Encouraging age-appropriate technique, safety, and gently correcting as needed.
- Facilitate class discussions on each cooking or food safety message, allowing students to brainstorm how they might put new skills into action and bring their cooking into their homes.
- Deliver the very best experience with grace, charm, and true culinary excellence.
- Enhance the atmosphere of our kitchen and education team with your passion, dependability, and spunk.
- Potential: Lead or assist field trips, day camps, or events (kid/teen cooking classes) in our kitchen, typically weekdays 8:30am-3:30pm a few times a month or occasionally on weekends.
- Potential: Lead or assist private corporate events (adult cooking classes) on evenings and weekends.
- Note, we can be flexible with your schedule based on your interests and availability.
Desired Skills:
- Education and or kitchen experience is a plus, but most importantly, we are looking for people with a passion for food and education. We welcome self taught cooks, educators in other disciplines, and those who are excited to enter the culinary space.
- Ability to confidently guide and set clear expectations in the kitchen and classroom, with a warm charm that will make students feel at ease. Having both FOH and BOH experience is a plus!
- Able to problem solve and take initiative independently with minimal supervision
- Reliable, dependable, and true to one's word; an individual who takes pride in everyday work
- Able to represent the mission of our brand: bringing edible education and love of food to corporate teams and kids. Must bring a positive, bright, team-oriented attitude.
- Interest, proficiency, and comfort in working with children between the ages of 3-14 years old.
- Enthusiastic, kind, proficient and professional persona.
- Experience with Google Drive, Google Chat, Google Docs, and Google Slides
- Ability to set up a beautiful kitchen classroom and atmosphere.
- Ability to travel to the studio location as well as weekly to schools throughout the city. Vehicle owner is a plus!
- Must complete a Live Scan (will be reimbursed) and be vaccinated + at least a singular booster for Covid-19. Current First Aid/CPR certificate a plus.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
Time Commitment:
- Mandatory training will take place on Thursday afternoons from 3:30-5:30pm in August and September.
- Artistas Apprenticeship program has a rolling enrollment. New cohorts will begin August 2024 and the program will run from September 2024 - June 2025 (aligned with the school year). New educators and cohort members will be added to the program throughout the year on a rolling basis as needed.
- Weekly commitment can range between 2.5-15 hrs/week, depending on your interests and availability.
- We are looking for individuals able to commit to teaching for a full school year (Date of hire - Early June). Time off coincides with school closures and holidays.
- Upon graduation from the program, Apprentices will have the opportunity to be promoted to a part-time Culinary Educator role at Culinary Artistas.
Pay
$25-$27 per hour, depending on experience. Plus weekly travel reimbursement.
